Can another Healthcare Professional help?

Do you need to see the GP?
Sometimes the GP is not the most appropriate Healthcare Professional to deal with your ailment. Please see the information on see a Doctor or Healthcare Professional, which might help you decide whether a GP appointment is truly necessary or whether it might be better for you to see a Pharmacist, Optician, Dentist or other Healthcare Professional. You can even self-refer for some services without seeing your GP.

The receptionist will ask for a brief description of your symptoms. This helps the doctors prioritise house visits and phone calls. Ensure that all patients receive the appropriate level of care, and direct patients to see the Nurse or other Healthcare professional rather than a Doctor where appropriate.

All information given is treated strictly confidentially. However if you feel an issue is very private and do not wish to say what this is then this will be respected.

Please help us

The Practice keeps a register of all missed appointments. If you fail to attend 3 appointments within a 12 month period you will automatically be removed from our practice list. Missed appointments only increase the waiting times for other patients. If appointments are not cancelled with enough notice this will still count as a failed to attend appointment. If you would like to sign up for text reminders please let reception staff know, or complete our online form.

Appointments

Consulting your Doctor

You may consult any doctor but we do advise you to see the same doctor if at all possible; you may have to wait longer to see a specific person. If you cannot attend your appointment, please telephone and cancel. Telephone lines are open between 08:30 and 17:30, Monday-Friday. Consultation is by appointment at all surgeries usual appointment time 10 minutes, if you require more than 10 minutes please make receptionist aware at time of booking appointment.

Emergencies

If you require an urgent appointment, please make the reception staff aware of this. Emergencies are always seen on the same day. The reception staff will ask for a brief description of your symptoms as directed by the GP Partners to ensure you are seen promptly by the correct clinician for your needs.

Telephone consultations

You may phone at any time to request to speak to the Duty Doctor. You will be asked to give brief details to the receptionist, and the doctor will call you back. The nursing staff will also be available if necessary. Usually it is best to attend in person for an explanation of the results of any tests you have had carried out.

Your appointment at the Practice
  • Please make one appointment for each member of the family who needs to be seen
  • We try to keep to time but please be patient if someone before you takes longer than planned
  • Appointments are normally ten minute slots, so if you have a complicated problem, or more than one problem, please ask for a longer appointment
  • Emergency patients will be given a suitable time during the day to sit and wait
  • It is Practice Policy to allow patients to choose whichever Doctor they wish to attend in the Practice

Additional information

If you have a suspected infectious disease

Please inform reception if you suspect an infectious disease, as this will enable us to deal with it appropriately during your visit to protect you, other patients and staff.

Giving Consent for Treatment

You have the right to accept or refuse treatment that is offered to you, and not to be given any physical examination or treatment unless you have given valid consent. If you do not have the capacity to do so, consent must be obtained from a person legally able to act on your behalf, or the treatment must be in your best interests.

Your valid consent (agreement to the course of action) is needed for the treatment that’s offered to you before any physical examinations or treatment can be given. If you haven’t given your consent, you can accept or refuse treatment that’s offered to you.

It’s important to be involved in decisions about your treatment and to be given information to help you choose the right treatment. When making treatment choices, you’ll often discuss the options with your doctor or another healthcare professional.
