Consulting Your Doctor

You may consult any doctor but we do advise you to see the same doctor if at all possible; you may have to wait longer to see a specific person.  If you cannot attend your appointment, please telephone and cancel. Telephone lines are open between 0830 and 1730, Monday-Friday. Consultation is by appointment at all surgeries usual appointment time 10 minutes, if you require more than 10 minutes please make receptionist aware at time of booking appointment.  Please see notice below for further information on appointments.

If you require an urgent appointment, please make the reception staff aware of this. Emergencies are always seen on the same day.  The reception staff will ask for a brief description of your symptoms as directed by the GP Partners to ensure you are seen promptly by the correct clinican for your needs.  The Advanced Nurse Practitioner will see the majority of emergency appointments each day.

Failing To Attend An Appointment

The Practice keeps a register of all missed appointments.   If you fail to attend 3 appointments within a 12 month period you will automatically be removed from our practice list.  Missed appointments only increase the waiting times for other patients.  If appointments are not cancelled with enough notice this will still count as a failed to attend appointment.  If you would like to sign up for text reminders please let reception staff know.

Home Visits

Home visits will be made to those patients whom the doctors feel are too ill or disabled to attend the surgery. A visit may be requested by phoning Patna or Coylton Surgeries. Home visits should normally be requested before 10.00 am as this allows the doctor to organize calls on a geographical basis. The receptionist will ask you for a brief description of the problem so that the doctor can assess its urgency.

We do not automatically visit patients on discharge from hospital. If you think you require a visit, please contact the surgery. Please remember that facilities for examination are better at the surgery than in the home.

Telephone Advice & Test Results

You may phone at any time to request to speak to the Duty Doctor. You will be asked to give brief details to the receptionist, and the doctor will call you back. The nursing staff will also be available if necessary. Usually it is best to attend in person for an explanation of the results of any tests you have had carried out. On occasions your doctor may advise you to phone for results. This is best done between 2.00 pm and 5.00 pm Mon to Fri. Results will not be given out before 11.00am. The reception staff will usually be able to advise if a result is normal, or if the doctor or nurse wishes to see you again.

If you are abroad and looking for advice please seek treatment from a local doctor or hospital.
